Instant Pot Bone Broth

The Instant Pot is an easy and quick way to make bone broth. Step one and two are optional, but will increase flavor and mineral extraction. This recipe can be adapted for use with a crock pot or stove top, cooking times will just need to be adapted.

Ingredients:

• Marrow Bones

• Chicken or Duck Feet (optional)

• Apple Cider Vinegar

• Garlic

• Ginger

• Onion

• Vegetables (see below)

• Herbs (see below)

• Seaweed (optional)

• Sea Salt

• Peppercorns

Suggested Vegetables:

Carrots, Celery, Mushrooms, Cauliflower, Leeks, Burdock Root, Parsnips, Sweet Potatoes, Butternut Squash.

Suggested Herbs:

Medicinal Mushrooms (such as Reishi), Astragalus, Burdock, Rosemary, Thyme, Nettles, Ashwagandha, Lemon Balm, Lemongrass, Calendula, Turmeric, your herbal formula.

Directions:

Step One (Optional): Roast Bones

• Put bones and half vegetables and herbs on a cookie sheet or in a casserole dish (if braising).

o Hold Seaweed and Sea Salt until step 3.

• Sprinkle with apple cider vinegar.

• Allow to sit for 30-60 minutes.

• Preheat oven to 425°F.

• Roast bones for 30-45 minutes.

Step Two (Optional): Braise Bones

• Turn oven down to 300°F.

• Pour water over bones and vegetables to just under fully covered.

• Braise in oven for 1-2 hours.

Step Three:

• Add all ingredients to Instant Pot including remaining vegetables and herbs.

• Fill with water to Max Fill line.

• Set to Manual High Pressure for 180 minutes.

• Allow pressure to release naturally.

Step Four:

• If you are not using a strainer with your Instant Pot, strain your broth by

putting a mesh strainer over a large bowl.

• Pour broth into jars and allow to cool before putting in the refrigerator.

o Once cool, broth can be poured into ice cube trays and frozen. Once frozen, put cubes into ziplocks for easy use. Each cube is approximately 1oz of broth.

For Crockpot:

Follow step one and two if desired, then add all ingredients to crock pot, fill with water, and set on Low for at least 8 hours.

For Stovetop:

Follow step one and two if desired, then add all ingredients to stock pot and fill with water. Bring to boil. Turn heat to low and simmer for at least 8 hours.
